18-02-13 Visual Communications Elective week 1

We started off today with an introduction of what we are expected to produce over the next week, thumbnaills sketches and a concept. We were first each handed out a single word to which the week's work will be based on.

For me, my word is REPLACE.

I first thought to myself, what do we replace constantly on a daily basis. Simple household items such as food, lightbulbs, razors, etc ... this was the basis for my first couple thumbnail sketches.
i'm looking at such animations as the pixar intro of the lamp for an example of introducing comedy to your work.

I'm also looking at differnt methods of illustrating.

Above: 'Four eyes' - David Habben
A mix media of ink and watercolour
Below: Worship Skateboards - David Habben

Above: 'The Gentleman' - David Habben
Created using photoshop where the image was first sketched out then coloured and then filtered

Above: 'Zombie' - created by gaffiti artist MONSTA, using nothing but spray cans on canvas.
Below: 'Heart' - same method of spray on canvas by MONSTA
Below: 'Are we headed for a fall' - from a series of acrylic paintings by artist Sara Tyson

Above: Chilian artist Fabian Ciraolo has taken famous fictional characters and modernised them in a hipster esq style, with a couldn't care about life, 'cool' attitude.
