Concept Time - VisCOM
For my first concept i'm thinking of making a battery powered leg , where a large car like battery replaces the calve muscles , it may be too similar to the million dollar man or even iron man?
So i'm thinking more or a hybrid that gets slotted into the leg, where the top of the piece is the positive end of a common double A lithium battery. The base will look like a normal leg , toes, foot, ankle, shin, calve, hair, etc ... between the leg base and the battery head i am thinking of having a preferated edge, or even a srewed edge, like the end of a lightbulb or the top of a bottle.

i don't want my pice to look like this but it's hilarious and makes me laugh so i'll aspire to make something this amzing ... someday !!!
i may even resort to a more machine like version but i'll see how the concept works first :)
I also am thinking of making a personal twist on the CFL bulb with a replaced top on the piece... the replacement will have to be an item you replace everyday, like toiletries or a pencil :)

Vis Com - Replace
Applying the SCAMPER method to my word REPLACE ..
Pixel pancho, an excellent graffiti artist who have satiracly replaced everyday bandelised characters with robotic figures who still preform the menial everday tasks they are assigned ... with a kind of terminator esq spin to them, were they not terrifying enough as they originally were ?? Yet oh so seductive ;)
looking at such photoshop tutorials as replacing hair with water , this is only the start of the editing plans, i've also researched creaking smoke, editing pictures into custom shapes, etc...
- S - Substitute
- C- Combine
- A - Adapt
- M - Modify or magnify
- P - Put to other uses
- E - Eliminate or minimize
- R - Rearrange or reverse
Coming up with some pretty funny concepts at the moment, delighted !!

Mark hyde (above left) with his 'hip-replacement' illustration for an injection of comedy. As well as Nacho Diaz's (above right) who has clearly replaced any innocence i may have had concerning the muppets with a filthy innuendo filled mentality towards poor kermit ... though that is the slutty one night stand life he chose ... poor guy could never KER-MIT.

18-02-13 Visual Communications Elective week 1
We started off today with an introduction of what we are expected to produce over the next week, thumbnaills sketches and a concept. We were first each handed out a single word to which the week's work will be based on.
For me, my word is REPLACE.
I first thought to myself, what do we replace constantly on a daily basis. Simple household items such as food, lightbulbs, razors, etc ... this was the basis for my first couple thumbnail sketches.
i'm looking at such animations as the pixar intro of the lamp for an example of introducing comedy to your work.
Above: 'Zombie' - created by gaffiti artist MONSTA, using nothing but spray cans on canvas.
Below: 'Heart' - same method of spray on canvas by MONSTA
Above: Chilian artist Fabian Ciraolo has taken famous fictional characters and modernised them in a hipster esq style, with a couldn't care about life, 'cool' attitude.

Animation module - week 1
The week started off with an introduction to what animation is and what our stop animations should contain. We were next given the brief for our project , we were given the line "i opened the door and" , creating infinite possibilities for our creations.
A blank storyboard was then distributed and we got cracking on how our 15 second film should be directed.
After much debate and changing of my stories, the combined total resulted with this concept -

Story 1
- The screen opens completely black, a white burst of light illuminates the screen in a quick flash. A hand moves up to the centre of the light source to obscure the blinding shine.
- The sound of footsteps is followed closely by the sound of a door creaking shut followed by a gentle/sharp bang.
- The camera angle changes to a side profiled view of a man with a single door frame behind him. He is not in a room, nor has he left one. He is situated on flat barren ground in a densely wooded forest/jungle. He has been transported to a dark and mysterious realm. Curious of his new location he steps forward to investigate where his portal has brought him.
- The camera angle changes to a reverse angle of the man walking into the forest. He walks ahead, slightly apprehensive of his new location. His curiosity overpowers his fear, bringing our protagonist though the tall trunks, weaving underneath and between the long pointed branched arms of beech and oak.
- All of a sudden an almighty ROAR is heard echoing from the distance. Pinning the man to the nearest tree in hope of shelter. The angle changes a front elevated view of the man against the tree, his whole body is in view.Behind is the darkened wood. teams of bats and birds flutter past in a panicked hurry. These are followed by teams of foxes, badgers and deer. Angle changing to the man's point of view- eye level- of animals scattering away.
- The THUD THUD THUD can be heard, the ground shakes, the man, trees and surrounds all vibrate. These violent footsteps are closely followed by the sounds of trees snapping, the crashing of falling trees and the heavy panicked breathing of the man. At this point an up close angle of the man's terrified face will be used.
- The final scene will be a long shot of the devastation created behind. The man will be viewed against his solitary tree, it it the only one still standing amidst all the destruction. The camera will zoom out. A dark silhouette will originate from the bottom left hand side of the screen. As it grows bigger, the angle sways left and the protagonist walks slowly out from the tree, his head raising in awe. The screen will be filled from top left to bottom right with the black figure, it's path of annihilation visible. Our hero pictured alone over the right shoulder of the beast, fear encapsulated in his face... a deep breath/grunt is taken...
- The scene cuts black ...
The title of the piece can fade in here.
Raku - 2
The vessels were fired at 1000 degrees before being taken out and put into a barrel of saw dust (oak) , where they were left to smoke for 30 minutes
For this piece i dipped the top half with the slip and crackle glaze but also dipped the white crackle at the base, i also varied the levels of dipping to get a variation in the smoked centre
Raku - 1
The fired vessels were first dipped in a slip then redipped in a white crackle glaze , during the smoking process this leaks through - Naked raku
Painted glazes for firing
The bowls were clamped at the side and dipped with a curing angle into the glazed then allowed to drip at an angle ... then allowed dry before firing again
